Fashion Kicks smashes the £1m target on night of glitz, glamour and generosity

May 23rd, 2011

On a fantastic night of great food, fun and entertainment, we can proudly say that Fashion Kicks 2011 raised over £145,000 for charity – helping us smashing the £1 million target we had set ourselves to reach this year.

All the money donated from this year’s event, which is the fifth in Fashion Kicks history, goes to three charitable causes – the main benefactor being Macmillan Cancer Support, along with Beechwood Cancer Care Centre in Stockport and the Adopt a School project.

We are so grateful to everyone who attended on the night to support the event. There were a lot of familiar faces in the audience, with stars of Westlife, Coronation Street and the world of football out in force.

The 600-strong sold out crowd enjoyed a night filled with unforgettable moments.

After a sumptuous champagne reception, with canapés supplied by the Academy of Culinary Arts, the main show kicked off with a spectacular Selfridges’ fashion show. The show was ably assisted by supermodel Lily Cole and the Manchester City squad, who toasted their by FA Cup victory by showing off their fancy footwork on the catwalk. The biggest cheer of the night went up when the players brought out the evening’s surprise special guest – the FA Cup trophy itself.

This was followed by a lavish dinner created by some of Britain’s top best chefs, including celebrity chefs and restaurateurs Paul Heathcote, Nigel Haworth, Terry Laybourne and The Ritz’s John Williams.

Former world champion snooker player Dennis Taylor and Michelin-starred chef Paul Heathcote then hosted one of the most important of the evening – our charity auction, which featured some incredible prizes such as a Silverstone F1 experience, a signed guitar by Noel Gallagher and a luxury yacht holiday in the Greek Islands.

To round off the night, we were treated to a phenomenal set from X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke, who got the audience up on their feet and dancing as she performed some of her biggest hits to date.

It was a hugely enjoyable evening for everyone involved, but the main thing was the huge amount of money we were able to raise for three fantastic causes.

We were blown away by the generosity the event received, both of our guests and of those who kindly donated their time and help to make the event possible.

If you haven’t done so already, you can still help Fashion Kicks reach its donation target by texting FASHION KICKS to 70444 or visiting www.fashionkicks.org.uk.  Your donation will cost £1.50 plus your standard network message charge. Proceeds from donations will go towards helping Macmillan Cancer Support. Depending upon your mobile network between £1.41 and £1.50 will go to the charity. Please make sure you obtain the bill payer’s permission.

ALEXANDRA BURKE AND LILY COLE TO PERFORM ON FASHION KICKS STAGE

May 11th, 2011

We are delighted to reveal that X Factor winner Alexandra Burke will be the headline act at Fashion Kicks 2011.  The R&B pop star will perform some of her biggest hits to date for guests at Sunday’s show, which is raising money for three charitable causes – the main benefactor being Macmillan Cancer Support, along with Beechwood Cancer Care Centre in Stockport and the Adopt a School project.

Commenting on the announcement, Alexandra said: “I am delighted to be involved with Fashion Kicks again and support such worthy causes, all of which make a real difference to lives of so many people.”

And the entertainment won’t stop there.

Selfridges have confirmed that the iconic British model and actress, Lily Cole will be modeling the spring and summer collection alongside fifteen members of Manchester City’s first team squad, as part of the event’s exclusive fashion show.

Fashion Kicks hoping to raise over a £1m for charity

Manchester City and Republic of Ireland International goalkeeper Shay Given, and his wife Jane, have announced exciting plans to host their eagerly anticipated Fashion Kicks event on Sunday May 15th, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, Beechwood Centre for Cancer Care in Stockport and the ‘Adopt a School’ project’.

Now in its second year in Manchester, the star studded red-carpet event will be aiming to pass a spectacular milestone.

In its eight year history, Fashion Kicks has raised more than £900,000 for worthy causes. Jane and Shay are hoping to crash through the £1m barrier with this year’s glitzy bash, that will see celebrities from the world of football, fashion and food unite in support of the worthy causes.

Held at The Point, Lancashire County Cricket Club’s newly developed £12m conference and events centre, guests can look forward to a sumptuous champagne reception with signature canapés designed by the Academy of Culinary Arts, in honour of the event.

The reception will then be followed by a lavish dinner created by some of British’s top best chefs, including celebrity chefs and restaurateurs Paul Heathcote, Nigel Haworth, Terry Laybourne and The Ritz’s John Williams.

The pinnacle of the evening will be a fashion show hosted by Selfridges, which last year saw Carlos Tevez, Adam Johnson, Patrick Vieira and Gareth Barry, among other players strike a pose. The Manchester City stars will once again take to the catwalk to strut their stuff, modelling the new spring summer collections.

Anne Pitcher Managing Director said, “Once again Selfridges is delighted to be supporting this very worthwhile cause and helping the community of Manchester for what promises to be a fabulous evening.”

The event will culminate with a night of entertainment and a charity auction. All the funds raised on the night will be distributed between the aforementioned charities.

Shay, who is a patron of Macmillan, commented: “My wife Jane and I are extremely proud to be able to support the outstanding work of the special charities involved, all of which make a real difference to the lives of so many people every day.

“The last Fashion Kicks was a sell-out and huge success for everyone involved who kindly donated their time to such great causes. We can’t wait for this year’s event and look forward to seeing everyone again.”

Manchester City CEO, Garry Cook said: “Shay and Jane’s passion and dedication over the years for raising funds for such great causes is an inspiration to everyone at Manchester City. As a result of Fashion Kicks, many unsung charities get the recognition and support, they so readily deserve. Jane and Shay not only have the Club’s unwavering support, but our upmost admiration and respect also.”

Tickets for the event are priced £120 per person, with the option of purchasing tables which seat 10. A silver table will cost £1,250, a gold will cost £1,500, with a luxury platinum table costing £5,000.

Platinum guests will end the night at the chic after party, where bespoke cocktails will be served up by expert mixologists, whilst Joy Division and New Order legend, Peter Hook, plays some Hacienda classics in an exclusive Fashion Kicks DJ set.
